Fortnite Creative Urges for Enhanced Content Moderation System in Light of Recent Map Ban

Fortnite Creative Calls for Improved Moderation System in Wake of Recent Map Ban

Fortnite Creative has always been hailed as a platform that enables players to unleash their imagination and construct unparalleled experiences. However, a recent incident involving a prominent creator, SuperMassive, has shed light on the frustrations content creators face due to the Unreal Engine for Fortnite’s (UEFN) content moderation system.

SuperMassive, renowned for their successful Box Fight map, conveyed their concerns about the malfunctioning content moderation system within UEFN to Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, using a virtual character within their banned map. The creator highlighted the issues encountered by content creators.

Initially, the map passed the content moderation process but later received a ban when an update was introduced to address scoring device concerns. The reason cited for the ban was code 1.15, with emphasis on potential obscenity associated with a seated mannequin asset present in the map. Nonetheless, SuperMassive argued that the complete blacklisting of the map due to a non-obscene element appeared excessive.

In addition to this incident, SuperMassive raised concerns regarding the inconsistent content moderation process within Creative 2.0. They pointed out instances where racist names were permitted on the Discovery page, suggesting possible flaws in the system. The creator also expressed frustration over other creators utilizing third-party intellectual properties (IPs) to promote their maps, creating an uneven playing field for original content.

To address these concerns, SuperMassive called for more comprehensive guidelines regarding the usage of established third-party IPs and proposed a three-appeal system for banned or delisted maps. This system would allow creators to appeal their bans while facing consequences for the success or failure of each appeal.

SuperMassive’s message to Tim Sweeney serves as a heartfelt plea for a more consistent and equitable content moderation system within UEFN. The creator recognizes the challenges associated with content moderation and suggests a collaborative approach to address the highlighted issues. They emphasize the significance of fostering an environment where original ideas can thrive alongside established names and IPs in Fortnite’s metaverse.

It is evident that improvements are necessary to ensure that Fortnite Creative remains a genuinely inclusive platform for creators.
