A Surprising Success: “Palworld” Breaks Records

In an unexpected turn of events, the game “Palworld” by Pocket Pair has become a massive hit, surpassing all expectations. Referred to as “Pokémon with weapons,” the game has already sold over five million copies and has secured a place among the top five most-played games in the history of the Steam platform.

“Palworld” made its debut on Friday, January 19th, on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Xbox Game Pass, instantly capturing the attention and admiration of players. With more than five million copies sold, this achievement is remarkable for a game still in its early access phase.

What’s even more astonishing is the number of players who have already immersed themselves in the world of “Palworld.” According to SteamDB data, “Palworld” has climbed to the fifth spot among the most concurrently played games on the Steam platform, surpassing hugely popular titles like “Cyberpunk 2077,” “Elden Ring,” “Hogwarts Legacy,” and many others.

At present, “Palworld” boasts a record-breaking number of concurrent players, reaching 1.29 million players, placing it just below games such as “PUBG: Battlegrounds” (3.25 million), “Counter-Strike 2” (1.81 million), “Lost Ark” (1.32 million), and “DOTA 2” (1.29 million).

This suggests an estimated completion time of 15 to 20 hours. It is worth noting that “Palworld” is still in its Game Preview version on Xbox, leading to some issues for players. Due to the unexpected surge in players, Pocket Pair and the game’s publisher, Epic Games, had to hold an emergency meeting to expand server capacity. The access to servers became challenging as the number of concurrent players reached 1.2 million across all platforms.
