Riot Games’ Workforce Reduction and Support for Employees

Riot Games, the creator of popular titles such as Valiant and League of Legends, has announced significant layoffs, reducing their workforce by approximately 11%. In an email to all employees, Riot Games CEO Dylan Jadeja explained that the company had expanded its workforce over the past few years but had not effectively determined what players truly needed from their games.

“In recent years, as Riot significantly increased its employee count, we scattered our efforts across newer projects, unfortunately not effectively discerning what players needed the most. The changes we are implementing aim to focus on areas that have the greatest impact on your experience, while limiting investments in less significant endeavors,” Jadeja wrote in a blog post.

Though many talented colleagues from various departments at Riot will be bidding farewell, the company is taking steps to support the affected employees. Jadeja highlighted the measures being taken, including providing a minimum of six months’ salary, including the notice period, to all Rioters whose positions are being eliminated. Longer support will be offered to individuals with longer tenures in accordance with local regulations. Riot employees who have company-provided health insurance will continue to receive coverage until the end of their employment, and additional benefits will be offered to cover healthcare costs, including medical, dental, and vision care. The severance packages will be equivalent to the length of time worked, rounded up to the nearest full month.

Furthermore, after returning their work computers, laid-off employees will have the opportunity to request a laptop from the IT department if they do not already have one at home. They will also be allowed to keep their current accessories, such as headsets, mice, and keyboards. Riot Games will provide the terminated employees with immediate access to job placement services for six months, offering career advice, networking opportunities, resume writing and review, and other forms of support in transitioning to new employment.
