Riot Games Announces Significant Layoffs: A Shift in Focus

Riot Games ogłasza znaczące zwolnienia

Riot Games, the renowned game developer best known for League of Legends, has recently announced a global layoff of 530 employees, amounting to approximately 11% of its workforce.

In a lengthy blog post on their official website, the company emphasized the significance of this decision for its future. Riot Games aims to prioritize its core games and live service titles, such as League and Valorant.

“Our strategy for the future is clear: we are focusing on what we do best and what resonates most with you. Every endeavor, from development to storytelling and competition, will be crafted to deliver meaningful and unforgettable gaming experiences at the forefront,” the company stated.

Consequently, teams that will feel the impact of these changes are those “beyond core development.” While projects like ‘Project L’ are still ongoing, unfortunately, certain other projects have had to be scaled back. This includes downsizing the Legends of Runeterra development team and discontinuing the publishing activities of Riot Forge.

Riot Forge was responsible for releasing six story-based games based on the ‘League of Legends’ universe in collaboration with independent developers. Although Riot has not released any of its ‘core’ games on Xbox, they have made them available through the PC Game Pass subscription.
