Redefining Production with Advanced Camera Tracking Technology

Lux Machina, a company specializing in virtual environments, has revolutionized their workflow for the League of Legends World Championship with the implementation of Stage Precision’s camera tracking technology. By utilizing Stage Precision’s SP software, Lux Machina has been able to manage augmented reality (AR) production.

During the event, Lux Machina’s team of consultants explored various tracking solutions, including optical tracking systems like Mo-Sys, cable-driven cameras, and the SuperTechno crane. However, they needed a tool that could create a unified link between different data sources.

“SP provides us with an environment where we can review incoming and outgoing data,” explained Jeptha Valcich, a camera tracking specialist at Lux Machina. “This allows the camera tracking team to work separately from the technical team, resulting in a greater sense of organization in our projects.”

NEP Group Netherlands, collaborating with Lux Machina’s consulting team, utilized SP as a tracking mixer, processing all available data and enabling manipulation before delivery.

“From the SP interface, we could visualize all the 3D data from multiple sources, synchronize or delay them, and send them to the Unreal Engine,” added Xander De Jong, a camera tracking specialist at NEP Group Netherlands.

“We used SP lens profiles for all five of our cameras, the three Mo-Sys systems we operated, the crane, and the cable-driven camera,” De Jong continued. “Additionally, we had mechanically tracked camera heads without tripods that required height control. SP gave us the platform to acquire and manipulate data, ultimately allowing us to control the camera heights. Without it, we wouldn’t have been able to integrate these data packages.”
