Nintendo Blocks Palworld Pokemon Mod, Sparking Controversy

Nintendo has taken action to remove DMCA content related to the Palworld Pokemon mod that appeared online yesterday.

The mod, which transformed the popular game Palworld into a Pokemon-themed experience, was first showcased by Twitter user @ToastedShoes. The modification changed the main character to Ash from Pokemon and replaced all the Pals with Pokemon creatures.

According to ToastedShoes, this was the first mod pack for Palworld that completely transformed the game into a Pokemon world. “Everything, from the playable character Ash, his friends Brock and Misty, to all the Pokemon inhabiting the world,” he said in the original video.

However, the video was swiftly removed from Twitter, with a message stating, “This content has been disabled in response to a report by the copyright owner.”

In response, ToastedShoes tweeted, “Nintendo is coming after me. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.”

It is unlikely that the promised full-length video of the mod will be shared on YouTube, as Nintendo is actively removing such content.

Palworld has seen immense success, selling over 5 million copies and becoming the second most popular game on the Steam platform, attracting a peak of 1,582,482 players.

At the time of writing this article (Tuesday, 11:00 GMT), the game currently has 1.4 million concurrent players, suggesting it may break its all-time record again.

Despite its success, Palworld has faced criticism due to accusations of Pokemon plagiarism. Nintendo has yet to comment on whether they will take any legal action.
