New RPG Avowed from Obsidian Offers Flexible Character Builds

Nowe RPG Avowed od Obsidian pozbawione sztywnych klas postaci

Obsidian Entertainment, the renowned game developer behind titles like Pillars of Eternity, has released an extended gameplay footage for their highly anticipated RPG, Avowed. While the game draws inspiration from the Pillars of Eternity series, it introduces significant changes in terms of character creation.

In an interview with PC Gamer, game director Carrie Patel explained that Avowed will provide a “class-based experience” for players. However, instead of rigid character classes, players will have the freedom to customize their character throughout the game:

“There will be multiple skill trees… Players will be able to choose their skills as they level up and alter them during gameplay.”

Starting points will be determined by different background archetypes, but they will not limit players to a specific character build. Avowed aims to offer its own unique experience, departing from the class-based system found in the Pillars of Eternity series, and providing a first-person, real-time gameplay perspective.

Here is some additional information about this change in Avowed (according to Xbox Wire), provided by gameplay director Gabe Paramo:

“We wanted players to have access to a wide range of skills from various trees, while also allowing them to freely compose their skill set. We didn’t want the choice at the beginning of the game to be too rigid. Players have the ability to mix and match different skills to achieve greater diversity. You can opt to be a warrior, but there is no strict class system. And if you want to try out new skills, you can always change your character.”

Avowed is set to be released this fall on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass. What are your thoughts on the freedom to customize characters instead of rigid class systems? Leave a comment below.
