The Future of “Call of Duty”: What Could Have Been and What Ghosts Actually Is

Przyszłość “Call of Duty”: Co mogło być i czym jest Ghosts?

“Call of Duty” is a first-person shooter series with a rich history of games. The first installment of “Call of Duty” was released on October 29, 2003, and “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3” hit the market at the end of last year on November 10, 2023. In total, between these two games, there have been 18 more installments, and as of April 2021, the series has sold over 400 million copies.

Initially, “Call of Duty” was based on the realities of World War II. However, over the years, many fans of the series expressed a desire for the game to be more modern, reflecting contemporary elements related to warfare such as weapons, technology, and even enemies. And in most cases, the developers met these expectations.

However, an online leak has revealed a futuristic aspect of the “Call of Duty” series. The leaked footage showcases a potential game called “Future Warfare”. In the video, the player chooses a mission called “Moon Base Assault” and is transported to the Moon, where a battle takes place. The entire atmosphere resembles a futuristic scenario, with space suits, fire, and explosions. Such visions could await players in “Future Warfare”.

In the case of multiplayer gameplay, modes like “Escort Mode” were supposed to be introduced. Later, this mode was presented in the game “Call of Duty: Ghosts” called “Safeguard”. In “Safeguard”, a team of players faces waves of enemies of varying difficulty. Together, they must overcome successive waves of enemies, with the option of 20 or 40 waves.

It is worth mentioning that instead of “Future Warfare”, the game “Call of Duty: Ghosts” was ultimately released in 2013. “Call of Duty: Ghosts” is a first-person shooter developed by Infinity Ward. Like many other parts of the “Call of Duty” series, “Ghosts” has similar gameplay mechanics, but with some innovations. In the “Ghosts” campaign, players take on the role of the main protagonist, Logan, as well as a non-human companion, a German Shepherd named Riley, the first non-human character in the series’ history.

Unfortunately, “Call of Duty: Ghosts” did not receive particularly enthusiastic reception, and to this day, after eleven years, we have not seen any other sequels. But how would you feel if we were to receive a futuristic version of the game? Let us know in the comments!
