Spec Ops: The Line Removed from Steam – What You Need to Know

Spec Ops: The Line – Osławiona gra zostaje usunięta z platformy Steam

After being one of the most acclaimed games of the seventh console generation, Spec Ops: The Line has unexpectedly been removed from the Steam platform. While the military shooter is still available on other PC platforms and on Xbox consoles through backwards compatibility, its removal from Steam has raised eyebrows within the gaming community.

The removal was first noticed by Wario64, who took to Twitter to highlight the absence of the game. Visiting the game’s Steam page now displays a message stating that “Spec Ops: The Line is no longer available on the Steam store.” While game removals from Steam are not uncommon, this particular case stands out due to Spec Ops: The Line’s critical success and significance.

The game’s infamous white phosphorus scene continues to be widely discussed as one of the most memorable (and horrifying) moments in gaming history, shedding light on the choices made by players. Spec Ops: The Line helped usher in a new, more critical era of video games centered around contemporary conflicts.

In our review, we described Spec Ops as a “bold experiment that deserves recognition. For the first time, a game with guns doesn’t want you to be the hero – it wants you to feel awful trying to be one.” It remains a game worth paying attention to. It’s unfortunate that it’s currently unavailable on one of the world’s largest gaming platforms, but fortunately, it can still be enjoyed on other platforms.

IGN reached out to 2K, the game’s publisher, for clarification regarding the removal. We will update this story if we receive a response.
