Ayaneo Twist: A Revolutionary Approach to Portable Gaming Consoles
In the midst of the ongoing competition for the title of the best portable gaming console, with the undisputed leader being the Steam Deck, the Ayaneo Twist offers a fresh perspective on this field. Instead of the traditional single-screen design, it boasts a charming shell equipped with two displays.
The Ayaneo Twist comes in two variants: Twist KB and DS. As the name suggests, Twist KB features a full keyboard – a first in the company’s history – along with a standard range of joysticks and buttons. On the other hand, Twist DS replaces the keyboard with a 3.5-inch touch screen. Despite these differences, both devices feature a 7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1080p and a native refresh rate of 120Hz.

The price of the Ayaneo Twist starts at $699 for the KB version and $739 for the DS version, but these prices are for early adopters who supported the device on the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo. An additional $40 (totaling $739/$779) is required to obtain the model with the 8840U processor. Once it hits the market, the expected minimum retail price will be $899. It is worth noting that this is a higher price than any other popular portable console on the market, including the Steam Deck OLED and the Asus ROG Ally.
Although the dual-screen design is innovative, I remain skeptical about its usefulness. Nevertheless, I must admit that, compared to the MSI Claw, I feel much more inclined to test and familiarize myself with the Ayaneo Twist.
