Achieving Massive Revenue Growth: Xbox Prospers with Activision Blizzard Acquisition

Xbox Osiąga Ogromny Wzrost w Dochodach Dzięki Akwizycji Activision Blizzard

Microsoft has just released the financial results for the second fiscal quarter of 2024, and Xbox’s revenues have experienced an enormous growth in the last quarter, up by 49% compared to the previous year.

This significant rise can primarily be attributed to Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which concluded on October 13, 2023. The final results include a net gain of 44 points associated with this acquisition.

Turning to Xbox’s content and services revenues, this sector has also received a massive boost, achieving a 61% year-over-year growth (including 55 net points related to the Activision acquisition). Device revenues also saw a 3% increase.

Overall, Microsoft has recorded a 62% growth in the second fiscal quarter of 2024, signifying an 18% increase compared to the previous year. Last week, Microsoft also reached a market capitalization of $3 trillion for the first time in its history, becoming the second company to achieve this milestone, following Apple.

However, in the same week, Microsoft also announced the layoff of 1,900 employees from the Xbox, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard teams, labeling it a “painful decision” but necessary to “align strategy and execution plans with a sustainable cost structure” in support of the “overall” growing business.

Looking ahead at Xbox’s future this year, the recent Developer Direct presentation confirmed that Avowed, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be released on Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass this year.

New flagship games joining Xbox and contributing to its revenue growth include well-known franchises such as Call of Duty, Diablo, World of Warcraft, and Crash Bandicoot. This growth also encompasses mobile game developer King, famous for titles like Candy Crush.
