U.S. Navy Announces Armed Forces Esports Championship with Halo Infinite

The U.S. Navy recently made a remarkable announcement, unveiling its plans to organize the 2024 Armed Forces Esports Championship featuring the highly anticipated game, Halo Infinite. This exciting event aims to demonstrate the exceptional skills of military personnel, foster a sense of camaraderie, and highlight the positive impact of gaming within the military community. The tournament began on January 22nd in collaboration with Complexity Gaming, a subsidiary of GameSquare Holdings Inc., and co-hosted by Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) All-Navy Sports under the U.S. Navy’s Commander Navy Installation Command (CNIC), along with the Armed Forces Sports Programs of the Department of Defense.

The groundbreaking format of this championship brought together not only competitive gaming but also extensive cognitive and physical challenges, creating a one-of-a-kind spectacle. Complexity Gaming, a highly esteemed esports organization within the GameSquare umbrella, proudly announced the victor of this year’s Armed Forces Esports Championship. This groundbreaking initiative symbolizes an ongoing effort to bridge the gap between the military and gaming worlds, opening up significant and influential opportunities.

“We are delighted to announce this year’s winner of the Armed Forces Esports Championship,” stated Jason Lake, Founder and CEO of Complexity Gaming. “Events like these play a crucial role in nurturing the passions of our community and bringing people together to collectively experience joy.”

The Armed Forces Esports Championship, featuring Halo Infinite, welcomed participants from all branches of the military, each competing for the title of the top gamer within the armed forces. One player and one reserve from each military branch – Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard – were chosen to represent their respective units in the tournament. The tournament consisted of two elimination rounds that took place over two days at the Lenovo Legion Esports Center in Frisco, Texas, with the units competing against each other in a ladder format.

In the end, the United States Army emerged as the champions, followed by the United States Navy in second place and the United States Air Force in third place.

“We are thrilled to have hosted this year’s championship. Events like these not only provide opportunities for service members to compete but also create avenues for forming new friendships through a shared passion for gaming,” shared Michael Morris, Marine Navy Sports Program Manager within the U.S. Navy’s CNIC FFR.
