Gaming has come a long way since the early days of Sonic the Hedgehog and the Sega Mega Drive. As a child, I would eagerly anticipate Christmas and birthdays, hoping for a new game to add to my collection. Back then, gaming was a simpler affair, with limited options and no online connectivity. We would gather around the TV, blowing into cartridges to make them work, and spend hours immersed in the pixelated worlds of our favorite characters.

Fast forward to today, and the gaming landscape has radically changed. Live service games like Fortnite, Minecraft, and Roblox have taken center stage in the gaming industry. As a parent, I’ve witnessed firsthand how these games have captured the attention of my children, who are now over 10 years old.

While I initially looked down upon these games, dismissing them as part of the “gaming apocalypse,” I decided to give them a try with my children. And even in a game like Fortnite, I discovered a well-designed shooter with an engaging world for players to explore.

As for me, I’ll hold onto my retro consoles for those nostalgic moments, but I’ll also embrace the ever-changing world of gaming alongside my children.
