Call of Duty vs. Rainbow Six Siege: A Clash of Gaming Titans

Call of Duty, a widely criticized game franchise, has faced its fair share of scrutiny over the years. The recent entries in the series have been seen as mere additions to an existing set, hastily transformed into full-fledged games at the last minute. The multiplayer mode has also received criticism for its unstable player matchmaking. Additionally, the graphics of the series have shown a downward trend.

While fans agree that Call of Duty has seen better days, they argue that things could have been much worse. Comparing the public’s reaction to this game with Rainbow Six Siege, fans on the X portal have voiced their opinions.

One Call of Duty fan seems to attack Rainbow Six Siege while defending their favorite game.

Rainbow Six Siege was released in 2015 and continues to be as significant as it was on the day of its launch. The discussion took place on the X portal, where people share their opinions about games and other topics of pop culture. User “Funny Guy” Lewko (LewkoFTW) tweeted about the decline of the CoD series but noted that it could have been much worse.

This comparison may be unfair since Call of Duty has always created first-person shooter arcade games, differing from the tactical first-person shooters like Rainbow Six Siege. The differences between these two titles are evident when looking at the gameplay. The pace is different, and there is a significant difference in player levels and skills.

All of this suggests that in the first-person shooter genre, where new games are constantly surfacing, rarely offering something unique, these two titles are more different than similar. The discussion has triggered various reactions among both Call of Duty and Rainbow Six Siege fans.

The author of the post also emphasized that the downfall of Rainbow Six Siege was much more severe than that of the Call of Duty series, which deserves a detailed analysis as few video games experience such a fate.

Some fans appear to be disenchanted with Call of Duty.

One user claimed to have switched to Siege because they were tired of CoD. They noticed that Siege also brings various changes to gameplay balance.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion about which game is better or preferred. However, the author’s argument was not convincing enough that a game released nearly a decade ago, still attracting close to 80,000 players daily, is worse or equally as bad as the current Call of Duty games.

Another comment also highlighted the vast genre difference between these two games. Rainbow Six Siege is a game that has been supported by its developers since its release in December 2015.

This is a completely different approach from Call of Duty, which has become an annual series. There were even declarations supporting Modern Warfare 2 (2022) for several years, but it all fell through when Activision announced Modern Warfare 3 (2023).

Another user pointed out that even if what the post author claimed is true, it doesn’t justify the current state of affairs.

The fact that things could have been worse doesn’t mean we deserve what we have now. The multiplayer has completely lost its thematic foundations. It’s no longer solely military – said the user.

This is a valid point, as Modern Warfare 3, the latest installment in the series, had more flaws than merits. Departing from the main themes of the series was evident to all Call of Duty fans. The series has undoubtedly come a long way from being an FPP shooter with an environment resembling the best of Hollywood movies to games where players run around in superhero costumes shooting rubber ducks.
