CD Projekt Announces Integration of Artificial Intelligence in Game Development Process

CD Projekt Zintegruje sztuczną inteligencję w procesie tworzenia gier

CD Projekt, a Polish game development company, has unveiled its plans to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) in their studio’s development cycle. Adam Badowski, the new co-CEO of CD Projekt, revealed that the company has formed a team to explore the potential of applying AI in game creation.

While AI can enhance certain processes in game production, Badowski emphasized that it will not replace human involvement. The company hopes that these new technological solutions will improve the efficiency of creative processes and accelerate production.

Badowski also shared some insights into the upcoming installments of “The Witcher” and “Cyberpunk 2077”. CD Projekt aims to commence the production of a new “The Witcher” game, codenamed “Polaris,” this year. The goal is to hire approximately 400 individuals to work on the project by mid-year.

On the other hand, the sequel to “Cyberpunk” titled “Orion” is still in its initial conceptual phase, according to the second co-CEO, Michal Nowakowski. Nevertheless, the company still expects 80 people to be working on the project by the end of the year.

Learning from the problematic and bug-ridden launch of “Cyberpunk 2077” in 2020, Badowski highlighted that CD Projekt has taken lessons from the experience. They believe that they will avoid a similar launch in the future.

CD Projekt is not the only game developer turning to AI. Japanese powerhouse Square Enix recently announced its intentions to “actively utilize artificial intelligence and other innovative technologies in both content creation and publication processes.”

This isn’t CD Projekt’s first encounter with artificial intelligence either. The well-received expansion “Phantom Liberty” for “Cyberpunk 2077” used AI to replace a deceased voice actor who portrayed the character Viktor Vector, a key figure in the game.

It is our hope that this new investment in AI will not result in job reductions, which we observed from the previous year. CD Projekt is responsible for some of the best RPGs and narrative-driven games in the industry.
