CD Projekt Red Announces Production of The Witcher 4

Nieoficjalne plotki o The Witcher 4 – CDPR rozpoczyna produkcję

CD Projekt Red, the Polish game developer renowned for The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077, has revealed their plans to commence production on The Witcher 4 in 2024. This news comes as fans eagerly anticipate the next installment of the beloved franchise, following the ten-year anniversary of The Witcher 3.

The details were shared by CD Projekt Red in an interview with Forbes magazine. Adam Badowski, co-CEO of CDPR, stated that they aim to have approximately 400 people working on the project by mid-year. While the official title of the game has yet to be announced, CDPR confirmed the existence of the project under the codename “Polaris” in October 2022.

Since then, information about the game has been sparse. However, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the “majority” of their team is currently working on The Witcher 4, suggesting a shift from Cyberpunk 2077 to the next installment of The Witcher saga. This aligns with CDPR’s investor reports and the fact that development on their sci-fi RPG is nearing completion following the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion last year.

Michał Nowakowski, the other co-CEO of CD Projekt Red, revealed that the studio has been considering the use of artificial intelligence in the game’s production process. However, it is possible that this AI implementation may not be visible to players. Nowakowski explained that they believe AI can assist in improving certain production processes but will not replace human workers.

One thing is certain – CD Projekt Red is determined to learn from the issues encountered during the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. The studio assures fans that The Witcher 4 will be the first part of an entirely new trilogy. Additionally, they have plans for the continuation of Cyberpunk 2077 and numerous spin-offs related to The Witcher saga.

Although the exact release date of The Witcher 4 is yet to be confirmed, CD Projekt Red suggests that after the debut of the first game, the subsequent two parts of the trilogy will be released within six years.

The creators of The Witcher 4 hope that their new RPG game will also serve as a good entry point for those who haven’t played The Witcher 3.
