CD Projekt Red Begins Production of New “Witcher” Game

Polski twórca gier CD Projekt Red rozpoczyna produkcję następnej odsłony serii “Wiedźmin”

CD Projekt Red, the Polish video game developer, is set to start production on the next installment of its popular “Witcher” series this year, according to Adam Badowski, the company’s new co-CEO.

“We aim to have around 400 people working on the project by mid-year,” said Badowski.

Having recently taken the reins at CD Projekt along with Michał Nowakowski, Badowski is a veteran of the company.

The project, titled “Polaris,” is a new trilogy that expands upon the medieval fantasy universe of “The Witcher,” which has sold over 75 million copies since the release of the first game in 2007.

While no release date for the first game in the project has been announced, analysts expect it to debut in 2026 or 2027, indicating that the company will not release another major game in the coming years.

Following the problematic launch of another title, “Cyberpunk 2077,” in late 2020, CD Projekt has been focused on transforming its studio. Several new games have been announced, and in October 2023, the company revealed that sales of “Cyberpunk” had exceeded 25 million copies.

The sequel to “Cyberpunk,” codenamed “Orion,” is still in the conceptual phase, according to Badowski. CD Projekt expects approximately 80 people to be working on this project by the end of the year.

According to Nowakowski, the company is considering introducing multiplayer elements, though no details have been disclosed.

With the pressure easing off, the company anticipates a slight increase in employment at its Polish studios while continuing to develop its studio in North America.

Badowski added that CD Projekt has formed a team to explore the possibilities of utilizing artificial intelligence. “We believe that AI can help improve certain processes in game production, but it cannot replace people.”
