Disney Imagineer Creates Revolutionary VR Technology: HoloTile

Innowacyjna technologia VR stworzona przez Disney Imagineera

Disney Imagineer Lanny Smoot has recently introduced a groundbreaking VR technology that brings us closer to the otherworldly realm known as the Holodeck, popularized in the Star Trek series. The innovative device, named “HoloTile,” functions as a unique treadmill-like floor that can be utilized by multiple users simultaneously. It offers an omni-directional experience and provides a more immersive virtual environment than any previous devices of its kind.

HoloTile is built upon a flat layer of small, circular rollers that move and rotate as people walk on them, automatically adjusting to different speeds and directions. When combined with the appropriate VR goggles, this technology can recreate a rudimentary version of the Star Trek holodeck’s fictional world. Although this technology once seemed like pure fantasy, it is now becoming increasingly tangible. Of course, let’s hope it doesn’t encounter the same malfunction issues as depicted in the original series.

Given that Disney Imagineering is responsible for developing this technology, it should come as no surprise that HoloTile will likely debut first in Disney theme parks before making its way to other locations around the world. Soon, we may find ourselves strolling through Coruscant or Dagobah, fully immersed in the atmosphere of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. However, it would indeed be a bit peculiar if the holodeck were introduced in a Star Wars-themed park before its counterpart in a Star Trek-themed park. Someone should take it upon themselves to rectify this and create a Star Trek-themed park!
