GTA Trilogy Breaks Records with 18 Million Downloads on Mobile Devices in One Month!

Rekord pobity – GTA Trilogy przekroczyła 18 milionów pobrań na urządzenia mobilne w ciągu jednego miesiąca!
In a quarterly letter to investors published on Tuesday, streaming company Netflix announced with delight that the remastered Grand Theft Auto trilogy had become their “most successful debut in terms of number of installations and engagement.” They also added that “some consumers clearly sign up just to play these games.”

This is exactly what Netflix had hoped for when they acquired the GTA license from Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games. It is also interesting to speculate about the exact amount Netflix paid Take-Two in this deal. Currently, Take-Two earns between 12 and 15 million dollars per month from Xbox Game Pass for the presence of GTA V. Usually, the game remains on the platform for six months.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition was released on December 14th for iOS and Android devices, and in just one month it broke records for Netflix. It will be interesting to see if they decide to bring other classic Rockstar Games titles to their platform.

Impressive Numbers

According to the research firm Appmagic, the remastered GTA game trilogy has been downloaded over 18 million times on iOS and Android devices. This is quite an achievement, considering that these mobile versions were released over 2 years after the console and PC versions.

The most popular of the three titles is GTA: San Andreas, as expected. The game has been downloaded over 11.6 million times on iOS and Android. The iOS version accounts for the majority of this figure, with 9.1 million installations, while the Android version has only reached 2.6 million.

San Andreas has claimed the crown as the most downloaded game on Netflix, surpassing the previous record held by Storyteller, which had 9.4 million downloads. This game was released on Netflix in September 2023.

Following closely behind is GTA: Vice City. It has been downloaded a total of 4.1 million times, with 3.1 million on iOS and over 900,000 on Android. The final title in the collection is GTA III, which has been downloaded 2.4 million times on Android and 1.7 million times on iOS.

Anyone can download these three games, but an active Netflix subscription is required to play them. They can also be purchased for an additional fee, although these numbers seem relatively small.

On Android, less than 1000 people have purchased GTA III, while just over 1000 have acquired GTA Vice City and San Andreas. This may not be the best result, but the download numbers on iOS for the Netflix versions are quite high, suggesting that several thousand people have bought these games within the Apple ecosystem.

The mobile versions offer enhancements such as accurate lighting, which is not available in the PC and console versions. Rockstar introduced a classic lighting mode to address common complaints from fans about the console and PC versions. More information about this can be found here. It is unknown whether these enhancements will be added to the PC and console versions.

We also have many screenshots from the mobile versions here if you want to see what they look like on a mobile device.
