Introducing a New Era of Responsible Gambling

Nadchodzi nowa era odpowiedzialnej gry w hazard

Amid growing concerns over gambling addiction, pub and club owners in New South Wales (NSW) are required to appoint responsible gambling officers by July. These officers will be responsible for identifying individuals who are addicted to gambling, particularly during high-risk hours between midnight and 8 am. Furthermore, establishments operating more than 21 gambling machines must have a responsible gambling officer present during opening hours, with additional officers required for larger gaming areas.

The role of responsible gambling officers extends beyond identification. They will also observe and monitor guests displaying signs of gambling addiction. Additionally, recording gambling-related incidents will be mandatory for all venues, regardless of the number of machines they operate.

The NSW government has recognized the necessity for approximately 3,600 employees in gambling-related positions to undergo responsible gambling training. This initiative serves as part of Labor Party’s commitment to reforming the gambling industry, reducing the associated harms, and eliminating money laundering activities facilitated by gambling machines. According to the NSW Crime Commission, criminals exploit these machines to launder illegal funds within clubs across New South Wales.

In an effort to further combat gambling addiction, NSW is planning to conduct a trial involving cash being introduced into gambling machines. This trial will include 28 pubs and clubs, showcasing over 700 gaming machines. The scope of this endeavor is greater than initially anticipated, demonstrating the government’s dedication to addressing the issue comprehensively.

The appointment of responsible gambling officers and other measures aimed at controlling and reducing gambling-related harms mark a significant step towards creating a safe environment for gamblers and protecting vulnerable individuals susceptible to gambling addiction.
