Introducing the Revamped Today View in Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO aktualizuje często używany ekran Today View, przynosząc nowy wygląd i lepszą organizację

Pokémon GO has announced a major update to its frequently used Today View screen, bringing a fresh look and improved organization. The new user interface (UI) is less cluttered and more streamlined, making it easier to see which Pokémon are featured in Showcases. Previously, this information was hidden on the Events tab, requiring users to scroll endlessly to find it.

One particularly welcomed addition is the “Happening Now” section. It was always cumbersome to exit the Pokémon GO app and search for this information on third-party websites, but Niantic has finally addressed this issue.

The useful summary of bonuses for ongoing events is also a great addition, but it begs the question – why isn’t this information also available on the Events tab? It’s called Current Events, yet it’s nowhere to be found there, which is quite puzzling.

As a result, other screens have also been reorganized. The chaotic scrolling section on the Events tab has been removed. However, as is often the case with redesigns, not everyone is a fan.

Not everyone is thrilled with the new UI

One of the criticized points is that the “Happening Now” section below the Today tab should be placed next to the “Upcoming Events” section under the Events tab, semantically making more sense. Another critique is that the Events tab now seems pointless, as it no longer lists the remaining events in the current month (refer to our Pokémon GO Events Guide for January 2024).

While we agree with these two points, our biggest concern is that the Events tab now focuses solely on GBL Timed Research, current Timed Research, and nothing else. This feels chaotic and disorganized, failing to depict the actual events taking place.

We would like to see Niantic allocate more resources to design this screen and create a well-organized interface where information about each ongoing event is grouped together.

Currently, bonuses related to the GO Battle Week are found on the Today tab, while Timed Research is on the Events tab. Why these bonuses aren’t present on both tabs exceeds our understanding. It seems to be the result of some poorly interpreted user research experiment, resulting in an improperly prepared Excel spreadsheet.

Nevertheless, this redesign is a step forward for players, but there is still much room for improvement.

FAQ:

1. What are the new changes in the user interface (UI)?

The new user interface is less cluttered and more organized than before. It makes it easier to see which Pokémon are featured in Showcases. Additionally, a “Happening Now” section has been added, allowing for quick access to current information without leaving the game.

2. Why is the “Happening Now” section placed under the Today tab instead of Events?

Many users have criticized the placement of the “Happening Now” section under the Today tab instead of the Events tab. Semantically, it would make more sense for this section to be next to the “Upcoming Events” section. However, it is a matter of preference, and many users agree with its placement under the Today tab.

3. Is the Events tab now useless?

Some users believe that the Events tab has become useless because it no longer lists the remaining events in the current month. However, there is a Pokémon GO Events Guide that provides a full list of events for each month.

4. What suggestions are there for improving the Events tab interface?

Suggestions include allocating more resources to design the interface in a way that groups information about each ongoing event together. This would make the interface clearer and more organized.

5. Why are bonuses related to GO Battle Week on the Today tab and Timed Research on the Events tab?

There is no clear explanation as to why this information is divided between two different tabs. It seems to be the result of some improperly interpreted user research experiment.
