New Touch Features Enhance the Xbox Experience on Mobile Devices

Nowe funkcje dotykowe poprawiają doświadczenie z Xbox na urządzeniach mobilnych

Microsoft is introducing new touch features to its Xbox app for iOS and Android devices, according to a report by The Verge. These features are currently in beta testing and aim to make gaming on smartphones and tablets easier for users.

The new touch features are similar to those available in Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service and offer an overlay on the screen that allows for remote navigation of the Xbox’s user interface. Users will be able to launch and stream games directly from their consoles, eliminating the need for a physical controller.

While dedicated controllers offer a superior gaming experience, the report suggests that Microsoft’s new touch features are quite effective, especially for those who previously relied on Bluetooth controllers for remote gaming. It turns out that 20 percent of players using the Xbox Cloud Gaming service exclusively use touch features. Microsoft is actively introducing custom touch features to many games, gaining popularity in titles such as Hades, Minecraft Dungeons, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

At the same time, Microsoft is undergoing significant organizational changes, announcing a reduction of approximately 1,900 positions in its gaming divisions, Xbox and Blizzard. This represents about 8 percent of the total number of employees in Microsoft’s Gaming division, which currently stands at around 22,000 people.

In an internal communication, Matt Booty, Head of Microsoft’s Content and Game Studios, confirmed these reductions and revealed the departure of Allen Adham, the head of Blizzard projects. Adham, co-founder of Blizzard, played a key role in shaping the company’s games. Booty expressed confidence that Adham’s influence will continue through his mentorship of young designers in the industry.

As part of the restructuring, Microsoft also announced the cancellation of a previously announced survival game from the Blizzard studio. Despite this setback, Booty assured that the talent from this project will be redirected towards promising new ventures in Blizzard that are in the early stages of development.
