Ranking the Strongest Ice-Type Gym Leaders in the Pokemon Series

6) Pryce

Pryce, known as the “Teacher of Winter’s Harshness” in Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, unfortunately falls short when it comes to being a formidable gym leader. His team consisting of Seel, Dewgong, and Piloswine can be easily defeated by a moderately-trained Electric-type Pokemon. By the time trainers reach Mahogany Town to face Pryce, they are already well-prepared to take on his team.

5) Brycen

Brycen’s team of Vanillish, Cryogonal, and Beartic are all pure Ice-types, making them easy targets for players who understand type matchups. While Beartic’s Scald move may pose a challenge to Fire and Rock-types, trainers with the right counters will have no trouble defeating Brycen.

4) Wulfric

Wulfric has one advantage with his dual-type Pokemon, Abomasnow (Grass/Ice), but it remains weak against Fire-type moves. Cryogonal and Avalugg, both pure Ice-types, can be easily defeated with the right counters. Wulfric may pose a moderate challenge, but trainers with the usual counters at an equal or higher level won’t struggle much.

3) Grusha

Grusha, the gym leader in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, can be more or less challenging depending on a trainer’s progress. Her Altaria may surprise trainers with its ability to Terastallize into an Ice-type, removing its Dragon/Flying weaknesses. Beartic and Cetitan make for straightforward battles, but Altaria’s access to Moonblast allows it to counter Fighting-types, making Grusha a bit tougher to beat.

2) Melony

Exclusive to Pokemon Shield, Melony can initially appear easy to defeat but can quickly become complicated. Her Eiscue’s Ice Face ability requires trainers to hit it with a physical attack before it can take damage, adding a layer of difficulty. Additionally, if Eiscue activates Hail, its Ice Face ability will reactivate, making it even more challenging. With the additional threat of Melony’s Gigantamax Lapras, trainers must be wary of its potential to induce sleep on their team.

1) Candice

Candice takes the top spot as the strongest Ice-type gym leader in the Pokemon series. With her team consisting of Abomasnow, Froslass, Mamoswine, and Glaceon, Candice proves to be a formidable opponent. Her team’s varied movesets and abilities, combined with her strategic use of them, make her battles challenging for trainers. Defeating Candice requires careful planning and a strong team of Pokemon to overcome her icy onslaught.
