The Battle Between Nintendo and the Palworld Pokémon Mod

The Battle Between Nintendo and the Palworld Pokémon Mod

Nintendo podjął działania przeciwko modowi Palworld Pokémon na YouTube

Nintendo has taken action against the Palworld mod on YouTube by requesting the removal of a video that showcases the mod. Palworld is a multiplayer survival and crafting game where players use adorable creatures called “friends” to gather resources and build structures. However, it seems that the mod created by YouTube content creator ToastedShoes, which transforms all the friends in Palworld into Pokémon, caught the attention of Nintendo.

Shortly after the release of Palworld and its surge in popularity, ToastedShoes uploaded a short video on X (previously Twitter) promoting their Palworld Pokémon mod. The claim made by ToastedShoes was somewhat misleading. According to the developer of Palworld, Pocket Pair, the game does not yet support mods, but there are plans to add this feature in the future. It is difficult to determine how ToastedShoes created the mod or how advanced it actually was. However, a few hours after posting about the mod on X, ToastedShoes announced that Nintendo had filed a complaint against the video, resulting in its removal. Despite this setback, ToastedShoes proceeded to release a full-length video showcasing the modified version of Palworld, even making jokes about Nintendo. (Watch the full video below before it’s taken down). What unfolds in the video is not surprising: 16 minutes of toying with Pokémon, battling them, forcing them to work, and using them to fight the nearly unbeatable first boss, which had been modified to resemble Jessie from Team Rocket atop a massive Electabuzz.

Nintendo has a reputation for enforcing intellectual property rights and always takes action against fan-made content. Since the emergence of Palworld and the allegations of intellectual property infringement against the game’s developers, speculation has arisen about whether Nintendo would address complaints related to Palworld. At this point, there doesn’t seem to be any official complaints from Nintendo about Palworld. It’s usually easy to remove something if there is no doubt about copyright infringement, as seen in the case of ToastedShoes. However, it’s just as easy to leave such things alone: at the time of publication, ToastedShoes’ video was still accessible on YouTube. The content creator stated on X that initially, they wanted to provide the mod for free to everyone but now plans to proceed cautiously in this matter.
