The Long-Awaited Return of College Football Video Game

Po 11-letniej przerwie, gra komputerowa College Football powraca!

After an exciting 11-year hiatus, many people will be reminiscing about their childhood as EA Sports announces the comeback of the College Football video game. The series began in 1993 with the release of Bill Walsh College Football, named after the legendary coach, which lasted for two years. It was later renamed to College Football USA (1996-1997), and then to NCAA Football (1998-2014) [source].

The game was suspended for a while due to disputes between EA, NCAA, and college players. Each installment since 1997 had its own cover athlete, as is customary in the world of video games. However, the players on the cover were not able to be compensated for the use of their likeness. Furthermore, during gameplay, players did not see the names of the athletes they controlled. For example, Reggie Bush was labeled as “HB No. 5,” and Tim Tebow as “QB No. 15,” stripping them of their identities on the virtual field.

Now, thanks to the opportunities brought about by Name, Image, Likeness (NIL), players will know exactly who is on the field, rather than just their position and number. Their virtual identities will no longer be taken away from them.

The release date has not been announced yet, but the game will be called College Football 25. EA Sports announced its return three years ago and even promised to release it last year, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen.

The company promises that the game will arrive “this summer,” and more information will be available in May. The last player to grace the cover was Denard Robinson from the Michigan Wolverines.
