The Witcher Franchise Enters Next Stage of Development Sooner Than Expected

Początek produkcji nowego etapu franczyzy Witcher szybszy niż oczekiwano

In exciting news for fans of The Witcher game series, the latest installment, codenamed “Polaris,” seems to be transitioning from the conceptual phase to production earlier than anticipated.

According to Reuters, Adam Badowski, Co-CEO of CD Projekt Red, confirmed that the team intends to start production on the “Polaris” project this year. Badowski outlined plans to expand the team, stating, “We would like to have around 400 people working on the project by mid-year.”

He also emphasized that while the newly formed team is exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in various areas, it will not replace human team members. “We believe that AI can help improve certain processes in game production, but it won’t replace people,” said Badowski.

The “Polaris” project was first confirmed in a March blog post by CD Projekt Red, along with an update to their investor strategy, which presented a proposed six-year schedule between the release of the first and final games in the new trilogy.

Although details are scarce, “Polaris” has been confirmed to expand the Witcher universe in a fresh way, so while it is informally referred to as Witcher 4, that may not be entirely accurate.

The game will also be one of the first projects from CD Projekt Red to be released on the Unreal Engine 5, rather than their proprietary RED engine, which was used in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Cyberpunk 2077.

As the game is only just entering production, it’s likely that additional information and a release date won’t be available for a long time – but that certainly won’t slow down eager fans from speculating.
